In order to continue with the progressive increase in the coverage of sanitary sewerage networks in the Metropolitan area of Asunción, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (“MOPC”) will launch a tender in the coming months for the design and construction of collectors of sanitary sewage for said area (Lambaré Basin) (the “Project”). The purpose of these works is to collect wastewater from various basins in Asunción that already have a sewage system but are currently discharged into different watercourses.
This Project, to be under tender soon, will be financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (“IDB”) within the framework of HydroBID Flood, which is an urban sanitation planning tool of the IDB[1], and includes the construction of more than 38 km of main sewers and pressure pipes and 14 wastewater pumping stations, a preliminary treatment WWTP with a capacity of 2,226 l/s and a sub-fluvial outfall. During the construction phase, it is expected that any sewer section whose depth exceeds 5.00m will be built with the use of low-destructive technologies such as pipe-jacking.
It is highlighted that the greater the coverage of sanitary sewerage networks, the better the urban conditions and the quality of life of citizens. The implementation of this Project will contribute to the reduction of expenses for accessing to sanitation that are supported by users, such as construction and cleaning of septic tanks, installation of compact treatment plants, among others.
The Project will be tendered in the coming months through International Public Bidding modality and the estimated amount of the works is USD 52 million.
